The Sirandi Puppy Development Program

At Sirandi Poodles & Oodles, raising exceptional puppies begins long before they go to their new homes. Our goal is to produce puppies that are not only physically healthy, but also emotionally stable, confident, and ready to thrive in family life.

Every puppy raised at Sirandi benefits from a carefully designed development program built from over 20 years of hands-on breeding experience, alongside proven techniques used in professional puppy development programs.

From their very first days of life, our puppies are raised with a balance of structure, gentle exposure, and loving human interaction.

A Purpose-Built Puppy Nursery

All Sirandi puppies are born in our custom-built, climate-controlled nursery, located on our Mount Tarampa property in Queensland.

This dedicated nursery allows us to provide consistent monitoring, care, and comfort during the most important stages of early development. It is where I spend the majority of my time during whelping and the early weeks of puppy life.

Our setup includes:

• safe and comfortable whelping areas

• indoor puppy spaces for early development

• constant supervision during the critical newborn stage

• calm, low-stress surroundings for both mums and puppies

This environment ensures every litter receives the attention and care they deserve.

Early Development and Exploration

As puppies grow and begin exploring the world around them, we gradually introduce new experiences in a controlled and positive way.

At around 4 to 5 weeks of age, puppies begin spending supervised time outdoors where they can safely explore new sights, sounds, and textures.

This stage helps puppies develop:

• curiosity

• confidence

• coordination

• resilience in new environments

During the evenings they return indoors, maintaining the security and comfort of the nursery.

Structured Puppy Development

Our puppy development program combines elements from several respected approaches, including:

Our 8-Week Puppy Development Timeline

Week 1: Safety, warmth, and early care

The first week is focused on keeping puppies warm, settled, and thriving. During this stage we carefully monitor each puppy, support the mother, and begin gentle handling in an age-appropriate way.

Week 2: Gentle handling and early awareness

As puppies begin to open their eyes and become more aware of the world, we continue calm daily handling and close observation. This stage is about security, comfort, and positive early human contact.

Week 3: Beginning movement and early interaction

At this stage puppies begin moving more confidently and interacting more with their littermates. We continue gentle exposure, short handling sessions, and early environmental awareness.

Week 4: Introduction to new experiences and toilet training

Around four weeks of age, puppies become much more active and curious about the world around them. This is when we begin introducing more toys, surfaces, sounds, and gentle novelty in a carefully managed way.

This stage is also when we begin early toilet training foundations. Puppies naturally start moving away from their sleeping area to eliminate, and we gently encourage this instinct by introducing designated toilet areas.

This early structure helps puppies begin to understand:

• where to sleep

• where to play

• where to toilet

By the time they go to their new homes, many Sirandi puppies already show a consistent awareness of appropriate toilet areas, making the transition for families much smoother.

Week 5: Outdoor exploration and confidence building

By four to five weeks, puppies begin spending supervised time outdoors during the day. They start exploring grass, open space, and new surfaces while building confidence through safe, positive experiences.

Week 6: Routine, play, and social development

By six weeks, puppies are becoming more socially engaged and playful. We continue exposure to household life, handling, grooming preparation, and structured interaction designed to build resilience and stability.

Week 7: Temperament testing and individual assessment

At seven weeks, each puppy undergoes a structured temperament assessment. This helps us evaluate confidence, sociability, focus, and sensitivity so we can guide families toward the best match.

Week 8: Preparing for home life

By eight weeks, puppies are ready for the transition to their new homes. They leave us having experienced early structure, socialisation, routine handling, and a thoughtful start to life designed to set them up for success.

Temperament Testing and Puppy Matching

At seven weeks of age, each Sirandi puppy undergoes a structured temperament assessment.

This evaluation helps us understand each puppy’s natural tendencies, including:

• confidence level

• sociability

• focus and drive

• sensitivity and calmness

Using this information, we work closely with families to ensure the best possible match between puppy and home.

Visiting Your Puppy

Families are welcome to visit their puppy during the early weeks of development.

Visits begin with viewing from around two weeks of age, with cuddles starting from four weeks onward to ensure the safety of both the puppies and their mother.

Many families choose to visit weekly as their puppy grows, building a bond before the puppy comes home.

For families further away, we are also happy to offer FaceTime or video calls so you can watch your puppy develop along the way.

The first eight weeks of a puppy’s life are incredibly important, but development continues after your puppy goes home.
